An Autumn Wedding in Provence
What is your favourite season in the year?
When I used to live in the UK the answer would always have been easy: Summer is the best season. Summer in the UK is at least when where you’re more likely to see some blue sky and not just endless grey cloud!
But now I have the great fortune to live in a place which famously has 300 days of sunshine per year, you can just as easily have a warm. sunny day in the middle of Winter as you can during Summer. So the question becomes a little more complicated, and usually tends to revolve more around what we’re eating and drinking; Rosé in Summer and Raclette in Winter in case you’re interested!
Now here’s another good question for you, which season would you choose to get married in Provence? Would you choose to have a classic Spring wedding? If you do, you’d be in good company. The busiest months of the year for most wedding vendors in this region are May and June.
This makes perfect sense, the colder weather is behind us, temperatures are nice and warm but not too hot, and the threat of rain has also passed. Conditions for a dream wedding are ideal.
But what would you say to an Autumn wedding in Provence? Although Autumn is a less popular time of year to get married in Provence, there are several advantages.

Natasha & Felix were married at the charming Chateau des Alpilles, in Saint-Remy-de-Provence in September.
One of the benefits of choosing to get married outside of the busy season is that there is more chance to get married in your first choice of venue.
The time of year that most people choose to get married, May-July, is the same time of year that most people like to go on holiday. Holding your wedding outside of this time means that your guests, friends, family etc, are more likely to be available to attend your special day.
Temperatures in Provence during September can still be as high as 30° (86°) during the day, and can remain in the mid-20°’s (around 68°) in the evening.
The last hour before sunset, known as Golden Hour, is when every professional photography will tell you the light is perfect. Since the sun sets later, around 9/10pm in the height of summer, Golden Hour is much later, by which time the bulk of the family wedding pictures are done with. People are eating and they want to start thinking about hitting the dancefloor.
With the sun setting earlier in September, around 7/7.30pm, this means that, if you plan well, there’s a good chance Golden Hour will fall during and just after your ceremony. The perfect timing for a photoshoot!
That’s still a very lovely temperature to enjoy an outdoor dinner reception and even opt for a gorgeous convertible as your wedding car.
